Thomas Cook Representatives Paid a Vist to Aktob And Türofed

Thomas Cook representatives paid a visit to, Union of Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators (AKTOB) Chairman Dr. Erkan Yağcı, Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED) President Osman Ayık, AKTOB Vice Chariman Kaan Kavaloğlu and AKTOB Secretary General Yeliz Gül Ege.

In the meeting conducted on 28.08.2017, the following people participated; Thomas Cook  Europe Region and Product Director Andreas Thams, Thomas Cook Germany Long and Short Distance Product Manager Sacha Büsseler, Thomas Cook Central and Eastern Europe CEO Stefanie Berk,  Öger Tours General Manager Songül Bektaş Rosati and Diana Tourism Board Member Burak Tonbul.

At the meeting; European Market in 2017 is evaluated and plane and sales planning for the year 2018 is negotiated.

AKTOB President Dr. Erkan Yağcı commented on the meeting by stating that; “In order to maintain the sustainability of current increase in demand also in the year 2018, we made meetings with Thomas Cook Executives and discussed status of competing destinations and what is to be done in the year 2018, especially mutual supports and capacity increase. We also focused on the issues to be done for Antalya to reach its demand levels in the years 2014 and 2015. It is also stated that, in the year 2018, there is data concerning possible increase in European market in sales of Turkey. Concordantly, the number of planes will be increased and it will be scheduled in this regard. In the following year, we are expecting to bring the prices to more sustainable levels close to the ones in the year 2014   . He added that “We also thank Thomas Cook and Diana Tourism for their support in Tourism in Antalya and Turkey in such a hard time”.

Antalya Outruns Its Foreing Number Of Tourists Of Ausgust 2016

Based on Antalya Airport arrival data of “August” the number of arrival from Russia which is our main source markets outrun the number reached in 2014 which has been our best year so far; there is an increase of 6 % from 2014 figures. However, Germany which is another main source market degreased – 7 % compared to 2016. The situation in Germany unfortunately affected betterment of Antalya compared to the previous seasons. Accelerator in improvement of Russian market is carried out by accommodation sector and by making considerable discounts; the market is enabled to return to its previous season’s demand level.

In general, number of tourists on August from; Ukraine, Israel, Belarus, Romania, Moldova, Iran, Algeria, Latvia, Kosovo, Jordan and Iraq outrun tourist numbers in 2014.

What is more, United Kingdom market improved + 13 % on July. There is increase in market of countries such as; Kazakhstan, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Serbia compared to the year 2016 but figures of the year 2014 are not yet reached.

But as it happened in the previous months, there is a decline in the markets such as; Denmark, Nederland, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Austria. This decline in such markets affects the upward trend in other markets negatively. Besides, decline in Belgium and Switzerland markets stopped specifically in August when compared with the previous months.

As a result, foreign tourists coming to Antalya generally in August increased % 73 when compared to year 2016; it is -8 % when compared to year 2015 and -18 % when compared to year 2014.

Having a look at the data results of the year 2017 from January – August, the number of foreign tourists coming to Antalya is 7.144.537 and it increased 63 % when compared to year 2016; the same number is -14 % when compared to year 2015 and  – 18 % when compared to year 2014.

President of Union of Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators (AKTOB) Erkan Yağcı commented on July figures in Antalya.

Erkan Yağcı stated that; “Although there has been losses from Germany among countries sending visitors to Turkey, they are still in the second place. We are paying a lot of effort to maintain our relationship with this market which is pushed behind politics. We are in good cooperation and support with tour operators we cooperated from German market. It is one of the significant milestones in Turkish Tourism.

Looking at the figures, we can see that Antalya will be the driving force to divert the demand to Turkey again. In this regard, accommodation sector in Antalya showed high level of devotion. There is no change in our tourism vision. We consider Spain as our opponent.

Main reason of improvement in the year 2017 has been Russian Market. In the year 2018, we should manage to improve in European market, especially in; Germany, Benelux and Scandinavian countries.

In Russia focused growing model of Antalya, there has been decline in European market, especially decline in German market affected the figures of development negatively. Antalya managed to close the gap that is formed on August when compared to the years 2014 and 2015. We need to turn demand in European market, namely Germany to positive in the year 2018 and take our prices to sustainable levels. In this regard, public sector should cooperate with the sector urgently and form its 2018 main strategy taking European market into consideration.

7th International Resort Tourism Congress on November 29-30

7th International Resort Tourism Congress with main theme “Tourism of the Future, Future of Tourism” will be held in Antalya between 29-30 October 2017. Due to the improvement in Europe and Russia and the situation in the region, tourism gained more importance. Situation in tourism and assumed probable developments in tourism will be discussed in 7th International Resort Tourism Congress.

The sector which experienced a hard 2016 entered 2017 with hope. Tourism in 2017-2018 and after and its future will be evaluated by significant actors of Global tourism.

Apart from present status of tourism, reflection of short and long term probable developments on the sector will be evaluated in 7th International Resort Tourism Congress.

Upon the Cocktail Party conducted in Lara Trend Hotel on 29.11.2017, the theme of the congress to be carried out in Antalya Concorde Hotel on 30.11.2017 will be “Tourism of the Future, Future of Tourism”.

To this day, very effective names such as; former German Prime Minister Gerhard Schröder, Thomas Cook CEO Peter Fankhauser, TUI Norvegian Cruise Business Development Director Jurgen Stille, Der Touristik CEO Sören Hartmann involved in this event. This year, we are expecting MTS Globe Group CEO Rembert Evling to participate as a spokesman.

At the congress conducted by the organisation of Union of Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators (AKTOB), not only all the parties of tourism at home and in the world in travel industry but also finance, consulting, investment, operation, management, supplier company and brand’s chief executive officers will participate in the event. 1000 people are expected to participate in the event.

Denizbank General Manager Hakan Ateş who will give a presentation about development in global economy and their effect on tourism at the congress will enlighten accommodation sector regarding tourism credits.

The Sector United In Traditional Aktob Lunch

Union of Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators (AKTOB) Traditional August Lunch activity took place in Rixos Downtown Hotel. Tourism professionals paid attention to the lunch where Antalya Metropolitan City Mayor Menderes Türel participated as the spokesman.

The opening speech of the lunch participated by; Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal, Konyaaltı Mayor Muhittin Böcek, TÜROFED President Osman Ayık, POYD President Hakan Duran, ATAV President Nizamettin Şen is conducted by AKTOB President Dr. Erkan Yağcı.

Evaluating the latest status in tourism of Turkey and Antalya, Mr. Yağcı stated that Tourism in Turkey is in a trend of rapid improvement. He also mentioned that; “There is 14 % increase in Tourism of Turkey compared to the statistics of the previous year. Based on 6 months values, our loss of income is approximately 3 %. In the year, our income per tourist was 828 $ in the year 2014. This value dropped to 700 $ per tourist in the year 2016. The average in this issue in the world declined from 1000 $ to 890 $ per tourist. There is a general decrease in tourist expenses throughout the world. The year 2014 was a very good year in this respect. But the year 2016 is the breaking point”. At the lunch where public and private sector representatives participated, AKTOB President Dr. Erkan Yağcı gave a current analysis of the sector and mentioned the expectations for the future.

“We should manage European Market”
Mr. Yağcı stated that there has been 75 % increase in Antalya on July. “This year, Russian Marked had a critical role. We need to have betterment in German, Nederland, Belgium and Scandinavian markets. Within 7 months, Antalya lost 1 million tourists compared to the year 2015. In the year 2018 where the focus is on European market, we need to manage this market. 15 million tourists from UK visit Spain. We need a third main market. In this regard, UK is the most suitable one. There are many things to do” said Mr. Yağcı.

“The demand will increase the price”
Dr. Erkan Yağcı commented on the prices. He stated that, the demand should be increased in order to increase the prices. “There has been a pressure on prices where there was low demand in the last two years. If we as Antalya reach 12 million foreign tourists, the prices will go up. So, for the year 2018 and beyond, we need to increase the demand and reach the price levels of the year 2014 ” said Mr. Yağcı.

“Criticising All-inclusive system has become a fashion”
President Yağcı also mentioned about criticisms concerning all-inclusive system and city tourism. He stated that; “Everybody criticises all-inclusive system. It has become a fashion. But it is requested by our guests. This system is chosen by the families. We are the country applying this system at the best all over the world”.

“We can host 20 million tourists in Antalya “
For city tourism, Erkan Yağcı stated that; historical values, symbol of the city, parks, fairs, sport contests, festivals, museums, bike roads, street arts, local food, country streets, modern public transportation, night life, shopping opportunities, hotel infrastructure, scheduled / non-scheduled services, safe streets, disabled friendly infrastructure, clean environment, economical airport and clean beaches are necessary. He continued that; “Antalya is 12th highest amount of tourist hosting city in the world. With city tourism, Antalya can host more tourists. Antalya can host 20 million tourists for 2023 Goal of Turkey”.

Antalya Metropolitan City Mayor Mr. Menderes Türel who attended AKTOB’s traditional lunch talked about Tourism Projects of Antalya.

Mr. Türel who stated that Antalya has many treasures continued that; “Our biggest chance is you because you are giving world class service in outstanding quality in matchless resorts. This is our biggest advantage. These treasures we have in Antalya are not present in the competing cities”.

“Antalya is the most successful city in all-inclusive system”

Mr. Türel who evaluated the objections made against all-inclusive system stated that the artisans in the city objects at this issue and they are right. The reason for him is not the system itself but it is related to increase the quality of city centre. He also focused on the point that Antalya is the city succeeding in all-inclusive system, he added that; “If we are able to reach this success in tourism sector, it means we made it as the destination managing this system around the world. The objections are related to the fact that the artisans in the city are not making use of tourism opportunities”.

“Antalya will be competing with Los Angeles”
Mr. Türel mentioned about the steps they take for making Antalya a qualified destination, including 4 different steps of the construction they will conduct composed of Boğacayı project, public recreation areas and cinema plateaus.

He also stated that there are coastal projects such as Tünektepe, Sarısu, Kaleiçi Marina to support Cruise tourism and he calls the tourism investors to participate in the projects.

Besides Antalya Metropolitan City Mayor Mr. Türel stated that;
“The city needs a symbol. The culture and supporting products of tourism in a city are very important. Antalya is a city diversifying every single day in this regard. We will reach competing advantages after our tourism projects with our competitors. We are aware of the fact that Antalya has a low quality putting aside its hotel. We created projects and investments in this regard. As a symbol of Antalya, we have project characterised by Mediterranean Seal located on Tünektepe project. We are under very bad circumstances in tourism but we are also not in the place we deserved. These activities we carried out will improve the destination quality and call tourist’s attention to the city. The destination power of competing will increase”.
